CoolBlueExit
CoolBlueExit began as the Musical Vision of singer-songwriter James Schappert. Years of working in both original duo and power trio bands and also working as a sound engineer with some of the Northeast's best original and cover bands gave James the vision to produce Songs that are focused and interesting.
Music started for me at a very young age, as I am sure that it does for most artists. I would find myself just really listening to the beats and flow of a song. Thinking to myself-How did they do that? How did they make that sound-and so on.
The first instrument to really excite me was of course drums, but my father quickly helped me change over my major to trumpet, which was a great thing for me as it started to get me thinking more about the melody and really getting emotion out of an instrument, pushing and pulling against the beat as it were.
I ended up finishing high school with a good understanding of music, having received awards, PA Governors School for the Arts being one of the awards I received and also the Highest that I could receive!
I was also in a five piece band that worked the tri-state area for two years.
After school I did not bother much with music until one day a friend stopped by my place and dropped off a semi broken acoustic guitar, (Cracked Neck.) and asked why don't I learn how to play it.
I went straight away at it, It was tough as the thing kept going out of tune, but I kept going at it until I started getting some nice sounding stuff out of it. Then I went onto learning bass and keyboards.
That's when I started writing songs and getting into the whole original band thing. It started as a pop duo where I played keyboards mostly and sang. Then we went on to add a drummer and became a power trio-bass, guitar and drums-I played bass and was the lead singer. During this period I was also a sound engineer with one of the areas largest sound company's, Magdon Music of Olyphant PA. That job always had my wheels turning giving me ideas about how to get that Big Sound and tons of ideas about writing, etc. All of this background finally gave me the courage to go it alone and work harder at the sound and style that I had in my head.
Now its all about what's Cool, the word Exit and my favorite Color!
After a time of messing about with all these ideas I had locked away I decided it was time to bring more of a focus to the sound I was producing. That's when I decided it was time to come up with a band name for fans to identify the sound with a name. I was always partial to the word Cool so that started to become apparent that would be part of the name. About the same time the word Exit just kept going thru my head. Then one fateful day Korg released the MS2000 and I was playing around with one at a local music store and fell in love with the sound. While I was playing with it I just kept thinking to myself what a cool blue color. Then it happened right there at Cossa's Music and Sound, I came up with the name CoolBlueExit.
I also really like the colors Red and Black...
